The mission of Yayasan Gunungan is to care for,
support and educate those sufferring the
worst hardship and distress, including orphaned &
neglected children, child prostitutes, neglected
elderly people and destitute families, regardless
of religion, nationality, race, class,
age or circumstances.
The Foundation operates under a combination
of European and Indonesian management,
providing assistance at grassroots level
directly to those who need it most.

But over the past few weeks we have been trying to make a short promotional video about the Children's Refuge.
Thursday, 1 January 2009 No fun days out this quater, the rainly season hit with a vengeance, and the Children's Refuge was not able to escape the torrential onslaught. In the picture above the garden floods while Ayu, the latest child to join the house, searches for the TV remote control.

Juni 2008 saw the 2 year anniversary of the organization. A small
celebration was held and a day out, hopefully to the beach, has been
promised for the not too distant future.
Monday, 6 April 2008 The
children at the Orphanage had been promised a day out for some time
now, especially if they did well in their mid-semester exams. As the
school report cards came in, it emerged that more than half of them
ranked in the top 4 in their classes at school. We are all very proud
of them and a day out could not be delayed any further.
Monday, 9 Juli 2007 On
9 July 2007 the Foundation opened its doors to the first children to
stay at the orphanage. Seven children were welcomed in total, three
boys and four girls.

The idea of the Charity Shop is based around the many such shops which
have already existed for some time in the west. Goods are donated to
the shop by the local community, to be sold to help raise funds and
awareness for social projects in the area.
Saturday, 21 April 2007 Soon after the tsunami devastated parts of Indonesia
in December 2004, a group of over 100 people in
Suffolk, England got together to make teddy bears to be
sent to the children orphaned by the disaster.

After almost a month working with the children worst affected
by the earthquake, which hit Central Java on 27 May 2006,
providing school books, pens etc. activities, competitions
and games, the Foundation turned its attention to the issue
of reconstruction.
Wendesday, 14 June 2006 After a month of distributing food, medical supplies and
shelter to remote villages worst affected by the earthquake
which hit Central Java on 27 May 2006, the Foundation
turned its attetion to the children.

At 5.54 on the morning of Saturday 27 May 2006 the
island of Java was rocked by an earthquake measuring 5.9
on the Richter Scale.
