Solo Culture & Tourism |
The Solo local government regularly holds culture & tourism days in the city. These are designed to help promote Solo as a cultural centre and often involve the young children from the local primary schools across the city. On 23 November an event was held at City Hall at which the children were invited to take part in batik making and drawing competitions as well as dressing-up and fashion shows. |

The kids from the Children's Refuge always like to join in these events and on this day Ngatno, Puput and Ayu went along to take part in the batik making and drawing competitions.
And with a prize of US$200 up for grabs who wouldn't?
The kids had a great day out, and even made it back to the Refuge House in time for their chores!

Birthdays |
|
Ayu is the youngest and latest child to join the house. In December we celebrated her 6th birthday which was a lot of fun, ending up with a number of faces covered in birthday cake.
Ayu has now started school for the first time and has quickly fitted in with the other children at the house.
She now controls the television viewing with an iron fist. |

It turns out that Ngatno was not actually born on the day he thought he was. It seems he never had his birthday celebrated before coming to the Refuge house and as such it wasn't something he readily remembered. When asked, he had the actual numbers correct, but just got them a bit mixed up. After checking his birth certificate, instead of being a rather gregarious Gemini he's now a philosophical Sagittarius - cool! |
